Lowe And Montague Collect SEC T&F Weekly Honors
Tuesday, March 25, 2008 | Track and Field
After each recording individual victories and NCAA regional-qualifying marks at the Snowbird Invitational last weekend to open the outdoor campaign, University of Florida freshman Rebecca Lowe (Vancluse, Australia) and junior Adam Montague (Townsville, Australia) have been named Southeastern Conference Female Runner of the Week and Male Field Athlete of the Week, respectively.
Lowe is currently the national leader in the women's 5,000m after posting a meet-record time of 16:19.97 at the Snowbird Invitational, good for fifth place on UF's all-time chart. She holds a lead of more than seven seconds over the next-best competitor on the NCAA descending order list, and tops the SEC chart by nearly 21 seconds. The award is the first SEC weekly honor of her career.
Montague also earned his first-career SEC weekly accolade after posting nation's second-best javelin mark at the Snowbird Invitational, winning the event with a heave of 71.57/234-10 in his Gator debut. The performance vaulted him into third on the school's career list, and placed him nearly 14 feet ahead of the next-best mark turned in by an SEC athlete this season.
The two honors that Florida received on Tuesday improved the program's total of SEC weekly awards to eight since the beginning of the 2008 indoor season, more than any other school in the conference. Lowe and Montague also became the sixth and seventh UF athletes, respectively, to be recognized by the league.
