Gators Travel to UNF for Final Tune-Up Before SEC Championships

GAINESVILLE, Fla.– Florida track & field will conclude the regular season with a final tune-up meet over the weekend as they travel to Jacksonville, Fla., for the East Coast Relays, hosted by the University of North Florida.
Last Time Out
The Gators were busy with split-squad action the weekend of April 16-18, sending a distance crew to the Wake Forest Invitational while hosting the Tom Jones Memorial. At Wake Forest, the distance crew walked away with three school records that included: Kelvin Cheruiyot (28:25.28, 10K), Oussama Allaoui (3:35.30, 1500-meters) and Josh Ruiz (13:50.12, 5K). On the women's side, Tia Wilson and Claire Stegall posted UF top 10 outdoor marks in the 1500 at 4:06.43 and 4:06.47, respectively. Judy Chepkoech claimed the women's 5K title with a program top 10 time of 15:15.98 and Reagan Gilmore crossed the line in the women's 10K at 33:38.46, also clocking into the Gators all-time top 10 list.
The women's 4x400-meter relay squad of Quincy Penn, Tyra Cox, Gabrielle Matthews and Sydney Sutton highlighted action at the Tom Jones Memorial, racing to a school record time of 3:23.95. Also moving up the women's outdoor record book on the track was Sutton (56.62, 400-meter hurdles), Matthews (22.41, 200-meter dash), Layla Haynes (2:02.49, 800-meters) and the 4x100-meter relay team of Penn, Cox, Matthews and Sutton (43.43). In the field, Akari Isaac (56.77m/186-03, Discus) and Asia Phillips (13.44m/44-01.25, Triple Jump) also recorded top 10 marks.
Freshman Jarno van Daalen climbed the Gators outdoor record book in two events, posting a mark of 19.51m/64-00.25 in the shot put and 60.64m/198-11 in the discus throw. Fellow thrower Basel Abosina also recorded a toss to move up the record book, ending with a throw of 67.40m/221-01 in the hammer throw contest. The men's 800-meter run featured a top 10 time from Miguel Pantojas who clocked a time of 1:46.44.

- The Gators remain in the top 15 of the USTFCCCA coaches poll this week, coming in at No. 5 on the women's side and No. 11 on the men's.
- Entering the East Coast Relays, UF track & field owns 30 national top 25 marks in the country (11 from the men, 19 from the women).
- Matthews (200m), Phillips (triple jump) and the school record 4x400-meter relay squad of Penn, Cox, Matthews and Sutton own marks in the top five of the NCAA for the women.
- Allaoui (1500m) and the 4x100-meter relay team of Trenton Howard, Jaden Wiley, Almond Small and Wanya McCoy own top five times in the country on the men's side.
- 2026 marks the sixth-consecutive year that the Gators will end the outdoor regular season at UNF.
