Stegall Earns Silver at World Athletics U20 Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Claire Stegall, the USA Track & Field U20 gold medalist in the women's 1500-meter run, is walking away with a silver medal on the world stage after placing second in the event at the World Athletics U20 Championships on Sunday afternoon.
Through 400 meters, Stegall remained in a tight pack with all competitors separated by just 0.74. The sophomore made her biggest move with 100 meters remaining, jumping from fourth to second along the final straightaway to take second with a time of 4:16.77.
Stegall previously set the school record in the event at the USA Track & Field U20 Championships in June at 4:04.59, where she claimed the gold medal. She concludes the 2026 track & field season as a U20 world runner-up, U20 USA champion, three-time United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-American and a two-time All-Southeastern Conference honoree.
Competing 30 minutes later, incoming Gator Mohammed El Moussalit put forward an impressive effort in the men's 1500-meter run. The Morocco native sat in seventh with 400 meters remaining, but a push through the final lap saw him cross the finish line at 3:41.09, good for fourth place.
Also taking the track for finals on Sunday, Kei-Mahri Hanna lined up in lane two of the women's 400-meter hurdles. Representing the Bahamas, Hanna took seventh overall behind a time of 58.17.
Stegall and El Moussalit will now turn their attention to the 2026 cross country season, which is slated to begin in early September.
