Mills Advances to 200 Meters Semifinals on Third Day of World Athletics U20 Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Two future Gators were in action on Friday at the World Athletics U20 Championships, with sprinter Imani Mills advancing to the semifinal round of the 200-meter dash while representing Trinidad and Tobago.
After pushing through to the semifinals of the women's 100-meter dash on Wednesday, Mills retook the track on Friday afternoon for the opening round of the 200 meters. Running out of the eighth heat, Mills claimed an automatic qualifier into the semifinals later in the evening by placing second at 23.75 (+0.0). She recorded a time of 23.74 (+1.2) in the semifinal round, falling short of finals.
In the women's 800-meter run semifinal, Zeynep Ozkara narrowly missed out on the qualifying for finals on Friday evening. In a bunched group, Ozkara ran with the leaders of heat three through 600 meters, battling for the third position, but ended up crossing the finish line in fourth with a time of 2:04.58.
In action on Saturday for the Gators will be Kei-Mahri Hanna, a transfer from Temple. The Bahamas U20 champion in the 400-meter hurdles advanced out of the first round on Thursday evening after posting a time of 56.78, good for third in her heat. The 400-meter hurdles semifinals are set for 9:15 p.m. ET on Saturday.
