Karsuma And Lowe Earn SEC Indoor T&F All-Freshman Team Honors

The University of Florida track & field team's Liene Karsuma (Riga, Latvia) and Rebecca Lowe (Vancluse, Australia) have been named to the Southeastern Conference Indoor Track & Field All-Freshman Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.
In its inaugural year, the All-Freshman Team recognizes the top rookie finisher in each individual event at the SEC Indoor Championships. The Gators' two honors are tied for the second-most in the league on the women's side.
Karsuma, who tied the UF indoor record and shattered the previous indoor freshman record in the high jump during the indoor season, finished fourth in the event at the SEC Indoor meet with a mark of 1.76/5-9.25. A week later, she returned to Fayetteville for the Arkansas Last Chance Qualifier and equaled Maria Galloni's indoor school record of 1.85m/6-0.75 to become one of just two freshmen in the nation to attain automatic entry into the NCAA Indoor Championships. She won five times during the indoor season, including a streak of three-straight victories to open the season, and earned SEC Female Freshman of the Week honors on Feb. 5 after pacing the field at the United Heritage Invitational in Nampa, Idaho.
Lowe earned her way onto the SEC All-Freshman team with a third-place finish in the 5,000m at the SEC Indoor Championships. Her time of 16:27.07 at the meet was good for an NCAA provisional-qualifying mark, and moved her into second place on Florida's all-time indoor chart. Earlier this week, she was named the initial SEC Female Runner of the Week of the outdoor season after turning in a meet-record and NCAA-leading time of 16:19.97 in the 5,000m at the Snowbird Invitational in Tallahassee.
