Women’s Track & Field Completes Triple Crown, Wins 2026 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championship
Sunday, May 17, 2026 | Track and Field
Florida women’s track & field is just the second SEC women’s program to boast multiple triple crowns.
AUBURN, Ala.– Florida women's track & field completed its sweep of the Southeastern Conference Cross Country, Indoor Track & Field and Outdoor Track & Field Championships by claiming the program's eighth SEC outdoor title in school history on Saturday night. The Florida men finished third in the team race.
With the sweep of the three SEC championships conducted in the 2025-26 season, the women in Orange & Blue secured their first triple crown since the 1996-97 season, which was also clinched at Auburn during the outdoor championships, and now join Arkansas as the only programs in the league to own multiple triple crowns. The UF women also hold 120 SEC individual titles after Saturday's events.
"[Winning the triple crown] puts us amongst the elite," head coach Mike Holloway said. "We've done it before when it was just a calendar year and not a school year, this is our first one in the school year. I want to give a shoutout to coach [Tom] Jones who passed away a few years ago. His squad was the last one to do it, and it's just a wonderful thing...I'm almost speechless. Kudos to coach Will Palmer for getting it done in the fall, and we all came together in the indoor season and got it done, and we came in here today and got it done. The ladies were just on a mission all weekend, it was wonderful, it was all outstanding."
The Florida women ended atop the standings with 107 points, the most since scoring 112 at the 2023 SEC Outdoor Championships, overtaking second-place Alabama by 20.5 points. The men ended in third overall with a tally of 78 points, trailing only Alabama (94.5) and Arkansas (110.5).
In the Field
Alida van Daalen took care of business in the discus throw to win her third consecutive SEC discus title. The senior opened with a toss of 64.85m/212-09, which would have won the competition on its own, but proceeded to unleash a throw of 66.70m/218-10 on her final attempt to solidify her spot atop the podium and break her own SEC Championship record. Her mark improved her already NCAA-leading distance and she holds the top seven throws in the NCAA this season.
Van Daalen finishes as one of the most accomplished discus throwers in the SEC. Saturday afternoon's discus championship marked her fourth straight conference outdoor individual title, as she won the 2023 shot put title. She joins elite company in the SEC, becoming just the fourth athlete to win three or more discus titles. With her victory, the UF women have won 11 SEC discus titles.
Continuing a legacy of excellence in the triple jump at UF, Asia Phillips captured the women's title in style, having already secured the championship heading into her final jump. She had already recorded a wind-legal personal best of 13.37m/43-10.50 (+1.8) on attempt three, but one-upped herself on the final attempt, jumping to the No. 4 mark in the NCAA this season, No. 6 in the UF outdoor record book and a career best of 13.59m/44-07.00, giving the Gators their 13th SEC outdoor triple jump title.
Also bringing back points for the women in the triple jump was freshman Gabrielle Pierre. Pierre recorded her best jump in a Florida uniform on attempt three, ending at 13.05m/42-09.75 (+0.8) to place seventh and jump up the NCAA East Regional list to No. 18.
In the men's triple jump, Jaden Lippett earned his spot in the finals out of flight one. Lippett, a sophomore, recorded a personal-best jump of 16.01m/62-06.50 (-0.2) to take seventh and move to No. 22 in the NCAA.
On the Track
Entering the championships with the 14th-best time in the SEC in the women's 100-meter dash, Gabrielle Matthews shocked the rest of the conference and gave the Gators their first title in the event since Kyra Jefferson in 2016. The senior raced across the line with the second-best time in school history of 10.97 (+0.5), a new personal-best and No. 5 on the NCAA performance list.
Matthews' night wasn't finished, however, as the Portmore, Jamaica native added another five points for the Gators less than an hour after the 100-meter dash, placing fourth in the 200-meter dash at 22.56 (+0.1).
The women's 1500-meter run featured a photo finish for the podium positions, led by a strong run from Tia Wilson. Wilson and Claire Stegall found themselves in the middle of the pack with 600 meters to go, but Wilson went neck-and-neck with Salma Elbadra of South Carolina, falling by just 0.04 to claim the silver medal at 4:09.84. Stegall also found herself in a battle down the final straightaway, holding off Doricah Minsar Isoe of Kentucky by an even thinner margin of 0.01 with a time of 4:11.17 to podium with the bronze medal.
Barbados' national record in the outdoor women's 800-meter run fell at sunset inside the Hutsell-Rosen Track complex. In a stacked field of the 800 meters, which ended with the top three times in the NCAA, Layla Haynes captured the SEC bronze medal with a school record and Barbadian national record (by nearly three seconds) of 1:59.38, now the No. 3 time in the NCAA. Stegall, just over an hour removed from her 1500-meters final, placed sixth with a time of 2:01.15, just 0.08 off of her personal-best.
The last individual track event of the championships saw the Orange & Blue capture another podium finish. Hilda Olemomoi managed to separate from the pack in the women's 5000-meter run to take bronze with a time of 15:47.14. Wilson, in her second event of the day, earned two points with a seventh-place finish at 16:00.95.
Jayden Horton-Mims, Nicholas Spikes, Malique Smith-Band and Justin Braun were locked in for the men in the 4x400-meter relay. In third heading into the final 400 meters, Braun put together a split of 44.48 to push the Gators into second place with the second-fastest time in the NCAA this season of 3:00.31.
On the men's side of the 1500-meters, Oussama Allaoui found himself in an all-out sprint over the final 200 meters, managing to earn the silver medal by crossing the line at 3:43.72 and pulling away from South Carolina's Jaouad Khchina. His teammate Riley Smith improved upon his seed position, placing fifth to earn four points for the Gators with a time of 3:44.59.
Vance Nilsson gave the best performance of his young Florida career in the men's 400-meter hurdles, getting off the blocks quickly to race across the finish line with the No. 3 time in the NCAA this season, and a personal-best, of 48.77, which will also push him to fifth in the Gators' outdoor record book.
Friday's school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase from Graham Myers wasn't the only record that would fall for UF's men. Kelvin Cheruiyot went up against some of the nation's best distance runners in the 5000-meter run, running with the lead pack to place fourth with a school record time of 13:32.08, a record by over 18 seconds. He holds the No. 8 time in the NCAA East Region.
Junior Quincy Penn gave the Orange & Blue a lift out of the women's 400-meter dash. Entering the weekend, Penn held a personal-best of 51.91. In Friday's preliminary she breezed past that at 51.27, but saved her best for last, racing to the fifth-best time in UF outdoor history of 50.93 to place fifth. She now sits at No. 13 in the NCAA. Justin Braun also scored four points by finishing fifth in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 45.30.
The squad of Penn, Jade Brown, Matthews and Sydney Sutton got the action started on the track in the women's 4x100-meter relay. Running the fifth-fastest time in school history, the team placed sixth at 43.01, now the No. 10 time in the NCAA. On the men's side, the quartet of Jayden Horton-Mims, Jaden Wiley, Trenton Howard and Malique Smith-Band also took sixth for three points with a time of 38.95.
Coach Holloway's 20th SEC Title
Head coach Mike Holloway also reached a milestone with Saturday's victory, securing his 20th SEC championship at UF. Among active head coaches, his 20 conference titles rank within the top five, including eight SEC women's titles and four outdoor women's championships.
