The fourth-ranked University of Florida women's tennis team used a 6-0 victory over Stetson on Wednesday afternoon to produce its 13th consecutive dual match win.
The match against the Hatters (13-9) was the final non-Southeastern Conference opponent of the season for the Gators, who improved to 17-1 overall. Florida (17-1, 10-0 SEC) closes out its regular season on Saturday, April 12, traveling to Columbia, S.C., to play the 32nd-ranked South Carolina (12-7, 5-5 SEC).
With a number of its matches canceled this season due to weather, Florida was able to schedule Wednesday's match against Stetson earlier in the week and the Gators looked sharp in their shutout victory.
After sweeping all three doubles positions, the Gators earned convincing straight-set singles decisions on courts Nos. 2-6, with the match at the No. 1 position left unfinished.
"We were very focused on the court today and took care of business," UF head coach Roland Thornqvist said. "We had a chance to hit a lot of balls and get some match-play in as part of our preparations for Saturday's match against South Carolina."
Csilla Borsanyi, Megan Alexander, Whitney Benik, Anastasia Revzina and Lolita Frangulyan tallied the victories on courts Nos. 2-6, respectively, as the five Gators combined to win 60 of the 73 total games played at those positions.
Benik netted a double-bagel, 6-0, 6-0, to record her 14th consecutive singles win, while Frangulyan won her 17th straight singles match after topping Natalie Gorham, 6-1, 6-2.
