Julia Cohen Named ITA South Region Rookie Player of the Year

The University of Florida's Julia Cohen (Philadelphia, Pa.) was selected as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's South Region Rookie of the Year.
Cohen is the eighth different Gator voted as the region's top freshman and the first since Zerene Reyes in 2002. Cohen moves onto the national ballot, where one of the eight regional winners will be named the ITA's National Rookie of the Year on May 20th.
Cohen enrolled at UF in January of 2008 and made an immediate impact, becoming the first Gator freshman to open the season playing the No. 1 singles spot since Anoucshka Popp in 1994. Entering the NCAA Team Championships Semifinal, she sports a 14-6 singles record, all in dual match play, and is undefeated in collegiate doubles matches, 24-0 overall.
Cohen, who also was selected as the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year, was the lone rookie voted to the 12-member All-SEC First Team.
