Gators in the Olympics - Aug. 10 Report

Omar Pinzon and Gemma Spofforth led the Gators in Sunday, Aug. 10, action from Beijing. In Olympic swimming action, Pinzon and Spofforth recorded stellar swims in preliminaries and semifinals of the day's scheduled events.
Pinzon, representing Colombia, recorded a 55.11, finishing first in his preliminary heat of the 100-meter back, while also competing in the 200-meter butterfly (1:59.47), a fifth-place finish in his heat of the fly event.
Spofforth, swimming for Great Britain at the 2008 Games, also swam the 100-meter back, recording a 1:00.11 for third place in her heat of preliminaries. Spofforth then went on to compete in the 16-woman semifinal, dropping her time to finish third in her semifinal heat (59.79), good for a fifth-place seed going into finals of the event Monday evening.
