UF Men's Tennis Begins Play at Southern Intercollegiate

Several members of the University of Florida men's tennis team began play at the 2008 Southern Intercollegiate Championship in Athens, Ga., as the squad made its first appearance of the year.
Overall, four Gators picked up wins on the day and advanced in singles play, while one UF doubles team earned a victory.
In the Division I singles draw, freshman Joey Burkhardt (St. Augustine, Fla.) won his first match for the Orange and Blue, defeating Brandon Corace (Virginia Tech), 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the Round of 32 and face Lucas Javita of South Florida at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Ranked 108th by the ITA, sophomore Jeff Dadamo (Tampa, Fla.) defeated Diego Toledo of Winthrop, 6-3, 6-3. The No. 14 seed in the tournament will resume play against Rasid Winklaar (ABAC) on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Round of 32. Freshman Carlos Cueto (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) was victorious over Michael Boyer (College of Charleston) in two straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, and advanced to the Round of 32 to face the 12th seed, South Florida's Jamal Adderly.
Junior Daniel Cash (Oslo, Norway) came away with a win in the Division II single draw after defeating Luka Stanic of Withrop in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-4. Cash advanced to the Round of 32 and will begin play against Jon Pine (Virginia Tech) at noon.
The day concluded with Dadamo and Tyler Hochwalt (Scottsdale, Ariz.) defeating UT-Martin's Stephen Bruwer and Andry Yesipoy, 8-0, in the Division I doubles draw Round of 32.
