Burckle and Tullius Named to U.S. World University Games Swim Team

USA Swimming has named Gator men's swimmers Clark Burckle (Lexington, Ky.) and Rex Tullius (Port Orange, Fla.) to the 2009 World University Games U.S. Swimming roster. Twenty-six of the country's top swimmers will head to Belgrade, Serbia, July 5-11, 2009, to compete in the swimming portion of the Games that extend from July 1-12, 2009.
Burckle and Tullius were selected for the WUG roster based upon their performance at the 2008 USA Swimming U.S. Open Championships that took place July 29-Aug. 2 in Minneapolis, Minn. At the 2008 U.S. Open, Burckle walked away with two silver medals and recorded three career-best swims, claiming silver with best times in both the 200 and 400-meter IM events, while finishing eighth with a lifetime-best performance in the 100-meter breast (1:02.82).
Tullius swam to a career-best 55.25 mark in the men's 100-meter backstroke at the 2008 U.S. Open to finish fourth, while also competing in preliminaries of the 200-meter IM (2:07.19).
The duo will open the 2008-09 Florida swimming and diving season with their teammates when they face the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. (EDT).
