Men's Tennis Opens Play at SEC Indoors

The University of Florida men's tennis team opened play at the Southeastern Conference Coaches' Indoor Championships on Friday in Lexington, Ky. Overall, two Gators advanced in singles play while two doubles team picked up victories.
Redshirt junior Antoine Benneteau (Boulogne-Billancourt,France) recorded his first win of 2009 after defeating LSU's Neal Skupski, 6-3 and 6-2 to advance to the second round. Sophomore Daniel Cash (Oslo, Norway) defeated Shane Collins of Kentucky (6-2, -6 (6), 6-1) to advance to the Round of 32.
Florida's Jeff Dadamo (Tampa, Fla.), Carlos Cueto (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain), Alex Lacroix (Paris, France) and Joey Burkhardt (St. Augustine, Fla.) all automatically advanced to the second round after receiving byes. The quartet will begin action in the singles draw in the Round of 32 on Saturday.
In first round doubles play, sophomore Dadamo and Hamui defeated Mississippi State's Antonio Lastre and Dan Sanchez by a score of 9-8 (1). The duo collected another victory in the Round of 16 against Shane Collins and Brad Cox of Kentucky, 8-5. Benneteau and Burkhardt defeated Georgia's Josh Varela and Christian Vitulli (8-6) to advance to the Round of 8 on Saturday.
Play continues on Saturday with matches beginning at 9 a.m. ET.
