Benneteau/Burkhardt Lead M-Tennis At SEC Indoors

One doubles teams and one single player from the UF's men's tennis team advanced to play on Sunday at the SEC Coaches' Indoor Championships in Lexington, Ky. The squad was led by redshirt junior Antoine Benneteau (Boulogne-Billancourt,France) and freshman Joey Burkhardt (St. Augustine, Fla.) who defeated the top-ranked doubles team in the nation to advance to the semi-finals of the SEC Indoors.
Benneteau, who is competing in his first collegiate event for Florida, and Burkhardt, a true freshman, defeated the No. 1 ranked pair of Johas Berg/Bram ten Berge (Ole Miss) by a score of 8-6. Benneteau/Burkhardt will face Sandgren/Smith of Tennessee on Sunday at 10 a.m.
Benneteau was also successful in the Round of 32 singles draw, where he earned a victory against 5th-seeded Eric Quigley (Kentucky), 7-5, 6-7 (3), 7-5. Also in the Round of 32, freshman Carlos Gonzalez de Cueto (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) defeated Kentucky's Will Beck (6-3, 6-4) and sophomore Alex Lacroix (Paris, France) was victorious over Drake Bernstein of Georgia (6-3, 6-4). Burkhardt defeated Ryan Farlow of Mississippi State, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.
Cueto was the lone Gator to advance to the Round of 8 in the singles draw, after defeating 13th-seeded Josh Varela of Georgia in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.
Sophomore Johnny Hamui (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) defeated Tennessee's Christian Hansen in the singles consolation draw (6-3, 6-3), advancing to play Alex Hill (Georgia) on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Sophomore Jeff Dadamo (Tampa, Fla.) also advanced after beating LSU's James Cluskey (1-6, 6-3, (10-8)). Dadamo will face Mark Bowtell of LSU at 8:30 a.m. as well.
