Freeman Memorial (Day 3 of 3)
Women's Tennis Concludes Play at Freeman Memorial Championships
Sunday, January 18, 2009 | Women's Tennis
With two dual matches scheduled for the season-opening week ahead, the University of Florida women's tennis team has opted to skip the final day of play at the Freeman Memorial Championships held at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
"With such a young team, these matches were important because they helped illuminate areas where we need to improve," UF head coach Roland Thornqvist said. "We know that we need to work on our match management and how to play at the end of sets. What I really liked seeing was the toughness we showed in playing through minor injuries. To me, that shows character and heart. We are all looking forward to begin the team competition this week."
The seventh-ranked Gators launch their 2008-09 season on Thu., January 22, when the team plays host to Stetson beginning at 5 p.m. Florida then entertains UCF on Saturday at Noon at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex. Admission is free to all regular-season home tennis matches.
