Women's Golf to Tee off at Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate Championship

The No. 8 University of Florida women's golf team will travel to Knoxville, Tenn. for the Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate Championship on Oct. 16-18. The field will tee off at the par-72, 6,317-yard Fox Den Country Club.
The Gators did not attend the event in 2008, but their most recent visit to Knoxville resulted in a first place finish at the 2007 tournament. The Gators were led by All-American Sandra Gal, who earned first place individual honors.
The 2009 Gators will be led by sophomore Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.), who is coming off a top-10 finish at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championships a couple weeks ago. Jensen will be joined by fellow sophomore Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.). Newcomer Mia Piccio (Bacolod City, Philippines) will be making her third appearance in as many events for the Gators.
The lineup will be rounded out by freshman Isabelle Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.), who made an appearance at the Hooters Match Play Championships, but will be making her collegiate debut in an all stroke-play tournament. Junior Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.) will be making the trip to Knoxville to suit up for the Orange and Blue as well. Yadloczky is the only current Gator to have competed at the 2007 Mercedes-Benz, where she tied for 15th place in only her second tournament as a Gator.
The Gators will face tough competition in Knoxville, as seven of the 18 teams participating are featured in the latest GolfWorld/NGCA poll. The eighth-ranked Gators will tee off against No. 4 LSU, No. 12 Wake Forest, No. 18 South Carolina, No. 21 UT-Chattanooga and No. 24 Ohio State.
The Southeastern Conference will be well-represented as seven SEC teams, including Florida, will be participating. The Gators will be the only team from Florida at the Mercedes- Benz Women's Collegiate Championship.
