Former University of Florida golfer Matt Every was one of 25 Nationwide Tour players who secured a 2010 PGA TOUR card on Sunday at the season-ending Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island in Charleston, S.C. by finishing among the year's top-25 money winners.
An All-American while at UF, Every recorded a five-under-par 67 in the final round to win his first Nationwide Tour event after two years on Tour, holding off leading money winner Michael Sim of Australia.
“I've always felt I'm talented enough to win,” said Every. “I couldn't have waited any longer to do it though, I'll tell you that. I'm going to enjoy it. I may play in one more event later this year but I most likely won't play again until after football season.”
Every began the week well outside “The 25” at No. 49 only to finish 10th with his tournament win. Every, of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., collected a $180,000 first prize from the $1 million purse. He had seven top-25 finishes in the 2009 season and finished with $300,936 in earnings.
“I'm looking forward to playing on the PGA TOUR next year,” said Every. “It's hard to watch your college buddies play on TOUR and the Presidents Cup. You start to think 'are these guys really that much better than me' and I know the answer to that question, deep down I do."
Sim won the money title in record-smashing fashion with earnings of $644,142.
