Florida's Alexandre Lacroix (Paris, France) and Antoine Benneteau (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) won the 2009 Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Championship doubles title on Monday at the University of Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., taking an 8-2 decision over Florida State's Connor Smith and Vahid Mirzadeh.
The victory gives Lacroix, a junior, and Benneteau, a redshirt senior, one of 16 spots in the doubles draw at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at Yale University in West Haven, Conn. The event, considered the second leg of the collegiate Grand Slam, will take place Nov. 5-8.
The pair now holds an 8-0 record for the fall, going 5-0 at the Southeast Regional event and 3-0 at the Gator Invitational in September.
Lacroix will also receive consideration for an at-large bid to the 32-player national singles tournament after advancing to the semifinals in Athens this weekend. At-large selections are expected to be made on Friday.
