Men's Tennis Opens Qualifying at ITA All-American Championships

Johnny Hamui (Wesley Chapel), currently No. 117 in the nation, scored a 6-4, 6-4 victory over TCU's 55th-rated Slah Mbarek in the first round of qualifying at the ITA All-American Championships on Monday, while No. 107 Antoine Benneteau (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) fell to Alexey Grigorov of Texas A&M, 6-3, 6-4. The event is the first of the 2009-10 season's collegiate-level Grand Slams.
Hamui will face Marcel Thiemann of Ole Miss, who defeated Columbia's Jonathan Wong in three sets on Monday, in the second round of qualifying on Tuesday. The start time of Hamui's Tuesday match is to be determined, but is expected to be in the afternoon. Competitors must survive three rounds of qualifying in order to qualify the main draw, which begins play on Thursday.
No. 23 Alexandre Lacroix (Paris, France) will compete in the main draw, with his match schedule and opponent also yet to be determined.
