Men's Basketball Downs Troy, 80-58

Freshman guard Kenny Boynton (Pompano Beach, Fla.) scored 23 points to lead the Gators (3-0) over Troy (2-1), 80-58, on Friday night at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. The game was the second in the Gainesville Regional round of the Legends Classic. With the win, the Gators improved to 46-2 at home against non-conference opponents since 2004.
Sophomore guard Erving Walker (Brooklyn, N.Y.) found his shooting touch in the second half after the Trojans entered the locker room with a 32-31 lead at the half. The entire team started the second half strong, but Walker scored all of his 13 points in the second half. He added three assists and six rebounds.
Boynton added another six boards for the Gators while tallying four assists.
Junior forward Chandler Parsons (Casselberry, Fla.) and senior forward Dan Werner (Middletown, N.J.) also were in double digits for Florida with 15 and 12 points, respectively. Parsons led the team in rebounds with seven while Werner was four-of-five from behind the arc.
Alex Tyus (St. Louis, Mo.) had the team's only two blocks of the night and added nine points and five rebounds. Junior center Vernon Macklin (Portsmouth, Va.) was one of three Gators to tally six rebounds.
Richard Delk led the Trojans with 15 points. Antywan Jones added eight points and five rebounds.
The Gators host in-state rival Florida State on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m. at the O'Connell Center. The game will be broadcast on Sun Sports.
