UF Doubles Pair Advances, Lacroix Falls in Singles at National Indoor Championships
Friday, November 6, 2009 | Men's Tennis
Florida's Alexandre Lacroix (Paris, France) and Antoine Benneteau (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) won their opening doubles match Thursday at the ITA National Indoor Championships, hosted by Yale University at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn., to advance to the quarterfinals, while Lacroix fell in his first-round singles match.
The UF pair used a tiebreaker to score a 9-8 (2) win over Aleksey Bessonov and Oleksandr Nedovyesov of Oklahoma State, who were the second seed in the doubles draw. Lacroix and Benneteau now hold a perfect 9-0 mark in doubles action this fall and will take on Tennessee's Boris Conkic and Rhyne Williams, 8-1 together this season, in Friday's quarterfinals at 9 a.m.
In singles action Thursday, the 23rd-rated Lacroix dropped a straight-sets match to No. 34 Marek Michalicka of Wisconsin in the Round of 32. Lacroix will compete in the consolation round, which begins on Friday. Despite Thursday's loss, the UF junior still holds a 10-3 mark in singles play this fall.
The consolation round will be redrawn and reseeded following Thursday's first-round play, which is still in action. Lacroix's consolation match time and opponent will be determined at that time.
