Attention GatorZone.com Visitors - Possible Exposure to Malware
Thursday, December 31, 2009 | General
Visitors to GatorZone.com in the last day may have exposed their computers to a malware called Spy-Eraser. The infection was in the ad server that pushes content to GatorZone.com. The ad server was shut down and the source of the malware removed. The malware attacked those using vulnerable versions of Adobe Reader with JavaScript enabled.
GatorZone.com can again be viewed and browsed without concern of the transfer of Spy-Eraser to other computers. We regret any inconvenience or problem this may have caused GatorZone.com visitors. Steps have been taken and are now in place to prevent similar problems in the future.
Those concerned that their computers may have been infected by the malware should run their virus/malware scanning software. Be sure to get the most current “definitions” for the virus/malware scanning software as it may not be detected by older versions.
Users should update to the most recent version of Adobe Reader.
If they cannot update, they should disable JavaScript. To disable JavaScript in Adobe Reader, Windows users should select "Preferences" from the Edit menu, then click on "JavaScript" in the ensuing list and uncheck the box marked "Enable Acrobat JavaScript." Mac users will find Preferences under the "Adobe Reader" menu.
