The Lady Gator golf team moved up three spots on the leader board to seventh place on Tuesday in the second round of the Northrop Grumman Regional in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. The squad improved their first round score by 16 shots, firing a 25-over par 309 to have a 36-hole total of 634 (+66).
“I thought the team played very solid today,” said head coach Jill Briles-Hinton. “This is a tough course and the short game becomes really important and I thought we did really well today.”
Sophomore Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.) matched her first-round score with another 75 (+4) to lead the Gators for the second day in a row. Yadloczky, currently in a tie for 5th place, collected three birdies on the afternoon. Her total score of eight-over par 150 is only three shots out of second place.
“Jessica turned in another solid performance,” said Coach Briles-Hinton. “She is tied for sixth which is very good in this field on this course.”
Freshman Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.) finished one shot behind Yadloczky in the second round with a five-over par 76. She improved her score from Monday by six shots and is tied for 29th at 16-over par 158 for the tournament.
Another true freshman, Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.), shot a second-round 77 to jump up 11 spots on the leader board into a tie for 34th at 159 (+17). Redshirt sophomore Lauren Uzelatz (Lakeland, Fla.) improved her score by five strokes with an 81 (+10). Her total of 25-over par 167 is tied for 66th place.
“Our team needs to continue to focus on the goals that we set coming into the tournament,” said Coach Briles-Hinton. “But I'm still happy with our performance today.”
Arizona State remains on top of the leaderboard at 599 (+31) for the tournament and the Sun Devils' Juliana Murcia remains the only player under par at one-under 141.
The Lady Gators tee off for the final round of the Northrop Grumman Regional on Wednesday at 11 a.m ET. Live scoring is available at www.GatorZone.com and www.golfstat.com.
