After being handed their first two losses of the season, the No. 7 Florida men's tennis team bounced back to defeat No. 18 Michigan convincingly, 4-1, in the consolation round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships at the Midtown Tennis Center.
The Gators jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after redshirt junior Antoine Benneteau (Boulogne-Billancourt,France) and freshman Joey Burkhardt (St. Augustine, Fla.) took out the No. 8 doubles team of Jason Jung and Mike Srocynski, 8-3. The win marked the second victory for Benneteau and Burkhardt over a top-10 doubles team, as the pair defeated the No. 1 pair in the country, Berg/ten Berge of Ole Miss in January. Sophomore Alex Lacroix (Paris, France) and freshman Carlos Cueto (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) clinched the doubles point for UF after downing Drew Daniel and Chris Madden, 8-4. The match on court two, sophomore Jeff Dadamo (Tampa, Fla.) and junior Daniel Cash (Oslo, Norway) and Michigan's George Navas and Andrew Mazlin was called short, but the match was tied 6-6.
Dadamo extended the Gators' lead 2-0 after downing Madden in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, from the No. 5 position. Benneteau gave the Gators a 3-0 lead after he defeated Srocynski, 6-3, 6-4. The Gators' clinched the victory following Cueto's win on court one. The freshman defeated Jung, 7-5, 6-4, and gave Florida the 4-1 victory over Michigan.
