Thursday, February 26, 2009 | Men's Golf
University of Florida senior Toby Ragland (Jacksonville, Fla.) was named the Southeastern Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, announced Thursday by the SEC.
This week's honor encompasses all of the tournaments played in the spring season to date.
Ragland earned his first collegiate victory in a seven-hole playoff over teammate Billy Horschel at the 2009 SunTrust Gator Invitational on Feb. 14-15. He shot a five-under par 205 for the tournament, tying Horschel and Central Florida's Simon Ward for first. Ragland sank a birdie putt on the seventh playoff hole to earn the individual medal and lead Florida to their second-straight win on the season by 18 strokes over Ole Miss. Ragland shot a career-best 65 (-5) in the second round, and his tournament total of 205 was the lowest 54-hole total in his collegiate career.
In his previous tournament on Feb. 2, Ragland helped lead the Gators to their first tournament victory of the 2008-09 season at the Golden Ocala Collegiate by shooting a three-under par 141 to finish in a tie for third place. It was his highest finish since he tied for second place in his first collegiate appearance as a freshman in 2005.
