Florida's Horschel Earns SEC Golfer of the Week

University of Florida senior golfer Billy Horschel (Grant, Fla.) has been named Southeastern Conference Male Golfer of the Week, league officials announced Monday.
Horschel has led the Gators to two straight top-five finishes. In his last three tournaments, he has a 70.67 stroke average and three top-10 finishes. He shot three rounds under par at the Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 27-March 1) to finish eight-under and tied for sixth place.
At the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship in Las Vegas (March 13-15), Horschel was one of just eight golfers to finish under par for the tournament, with another tie for sixth place at two-under 214, leading Florida to a fourth place finish.
In his most recent outing, Horschel fired a final round 69 (-3) and finished with a three-round score of 214 (-2), to tie for fourth place at the Chris Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. The Gators had their second-straight fourth-place finish.
The three-time All-American leads the Gators this season with a 71.10 stroke average in 20 rounds. He leads the Gators in rounds at or under par (14) and tournaments at or under par (6). In seven tournament appearances during the 2008-09 season, Horschel has finished in the top-10 six times.
This is the second-straight award for the Gators, as senior Toby Ragland (Jacksonville , Fla.) earned the award after his win at the SunTrust Gator Invitational. The next SEC male and female golfers of the week will be named on April 1.
Florida returns to action April 5-7 at the prestigious U.S. Collegiate Championship, hosted by Georgia Tech at the Golf Club of Georgia in Atlanta.
