No. 9 UF Men's Tennis Wins At No. 15 FSU, 5-2

The No. 9 Florida men's tennis team recorded their first road win of the season, outlasting No. 15 Florida State, 5-2. The Gators are now 21-7 all time on the Seminoles' home court. Florida currently owns a 9-3 record, while Florida State is now 10-5 in dual match play.
For only the second time this season, the Gators dropped the doubles point and were forced to begin singles play with a 1-0 deficit. On the same day that freshman Carlos Cueto (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) and sophomore Alex Lacroix (Paris, France) entered the ITA poll for the first time this season at No. 80, the duo earned the only doubles victory for Florida. The pair defeated Drew Baily and Maciek Sykut, 9-8 (1).
Sophomore Jeff Dadamo (Tampa, Fla.) evened the score, 1-1, with the first singles victory of the match. Dadamo handed Chris Cloer a 6-4, 7-6 (3) loss on court five. Erik Corace (Naples, Fla.) gave the Gators their first lead of the match at 2-1 following his victory on court six. The sophomore needed only two sets to defeat Baily, 6-4, 7-5. No. 34 Lacroix earned the third victory, defeating No. 42 Clint Bowles in a three-set thriller, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. Lacroix is now 11-2 this spring and 10-1 in dual matches.
Joey Burkhardt (St. Augustine, Fla.) clinched the match for the Orange and Blue with a victory on court four. The freshman downed Vahid Mirzadeh, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 and currently owns a 7-4 dual match record. Redshirt junior Antoine Benneteau (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) earned the final win for the Gators, outlasting Sykut, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.
The Gators return home and begin SEC play this weekend, hosting No. 11 Kentucky on Friday at 3 p.m. and No. 37 Vanderbilt on Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission to both matches is free and live scoring can be found at www.GatorZone.com.
