Yadloczky Maintains Lead, W-Golf In Sixth Heading Into Final Round of UCF Challenge
Monday, March 9, 2009 | Women's Golf
For the second-consecutive round, the UF women's golf team was led by sophomore Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.), who remains in first place at the 2009 UCF Challenge. The Gators added one stroke to their previous round, but jumped two spots on the leaderboard. After carding a 293 (+5), Florida is currently in sixth place heading into the final round.
“I am very pleased with the team's performance today,” said head coach Jill Briles-Hinton. “The entire team contributed to a very successful round. Tomorrow we just need to take it one shot at a time and stay present. The squad will have to dig down deep but I have great confidence in them.”
After nearly setting the course record with a six-under 66 in her first round of play, Yadloczky followed up with another solid round, carding a two-under 70 on Monday. The sophomore made a birdie on the first hole and remained at one-under as her entered the turn toward the back nine. She followed her birdie on the 10th hole with a bogey on 11, but a final birdie on the 16th hole secured her finish under par.
“Jessica is doing very well,” Briles-Hinton went on to say. “She followed up a great round where she shot a 66 with a 70 today, which is good. Most people who would shoot a 66 would follow up with a round in the high 70s.”
Freshman Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.) also had a solid round, carding an even-par 72 on Monday to land her in 29th place with a 36-hole score of 146 (+2). Watts was one-under par before carding back-to-back bogeys on holes eight and nine, but rallied back to make a birdie on her 17th hole.
Lauren Uzelatz (Lakeland, Fla.) is currently in 47th place after adding one stroke to her previous round for a two-round score of 140 (72-73, +5). Uzelatz was even heading into the back nine thanks to two birdies, two bogeys and five pars, but her bogeys outnumbered her birdies, four to one.
Redshirt sophomore Nicole Schachner (Libertyville, Ill.) and freshman Evan Jensen (Belleair, Fla.) are both tied for 76th place after carding a 36-hole score of 155 (+11). Schachner got off to a rough start, sandwiching a double bogey with two bogeys on holes two through four, but showed her resiliency as she notched one birdie, one bogey and seven pars in her final nine holes. Jensen improved her first round score by three strokes for a 76 (+4) on Monday. She was one of three Lady Gators to bogey on the ninth hole, eventually carding one birdie, five bogeys and 12 pars on the afternoon.
Arizona State climbed up one spot to first on the leaderboard with a 36-hole score of 568 (284-284, -8). The Sun Devils hold a one-stroke lead over UCLA, who currently owns a seven-under 569 (282-287) team score.
The third and final round begins tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring can be found at www.GatorZone.com and www.GolfStat.com.
