The University of Florida women's tennis team will play No. 19 Vanderbilt on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Southeastern Conference Tournament. First serve at the Billingsley Tennis Center is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. ET (10:30 a.m. CT).
The Gators (13-8) earned the No. 4 seed in the league's 12-team postseason event and received a first-round bye. The fifth-seeded Commodores (11-7) defeated 12th-seeded Mississippi State, 4-0, in their opening-round match on Thursday, when heavy winds actually forced singles to be moved to the Dills Indoor Tennis Center.
Florida defeated Vanderbilt, 5-2, during the regular-season contest in Nashville on March 8th. The Gators field a 38-2 overall record against the Commodores, including a 9-0 edge in SEC Tournament play.
The Gators sport an impressive 56-6 all-time record in the SEC Tournament, capturing 15 of the 21 possible titles. UF, which has never had to play on opening day, fields a 21-0 all-time mark in quarterfinal round matches and a 20-1 ledger in the semifinals.
Junior Marrit Boonstra, a unanimous first-team All-SEC honoree, brings an 18-2 dual match singles record to the court, including an 8-2 mark at the No. 1 position during the SEC regular season. Freshman Joanna Mather, also a member of the All-SEC first team, rides a team-leading nine-match singles win streak into Friday's contest, fielding a 9-1 record at the No. 3 spot in league action. Junior Anastasia Revzina's 7-2 record during SEC play against league foes earned her a spot on the first team, while rookie Jessica Alexander landed on the second team with her outstanding play on the No. 4 court.
