The University of Florida will send four student-athletes to the NCAA men's tennis singles and doubles championships, the NCAA announced Wednesday. Freshman Carlos Cueto (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain), ranked No. 23 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, and No. 33 sophomore Alex Lacroix (Paris, France) will compete in the singles tournament, while the 16th-rated doubles pair of junior Antoine Benneteau (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) and freshman Joey Burkhardt (St. Augustine, Fla.) will represent the Gators in the doubles tournament.
The singles and doubles competition, hosted by Texas A&M University, will be conducted May 20-25 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas, at the conclusion of the team championship (May 14-19).
“Having four guys make it to the individual championships is something we're very proud of and excited about,” said head coach Andy Jackson. “It's the result of a great deal of hard work and dedication.”
The field consists of 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams, and all matches will be best of three using regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games.
UF will be in action next at home vs. Marist on Friday, May 8, at 4 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA team tournament. Tickets are available at www.gatorzone.com/tickets or through the Gator Ticket Office by calling (352) 375-4683, ext. 6800.
