Three members of the University of Florida men's tennis team were recognized when the Southeastern Conference announced its season-ending awards on Wednesday.
Freshman Carlos Cueto (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) was named SEC Freshman of the Year in addition to earning first-team All-SEC and All-Freshman team honors. Sophomore Alex Lacroix (Paris, France) joined Cueto in receiving first-team All-SEC accolades, while junior Antoine Benneteau (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) was selected as a second-team All-SEC performer.
"We are very proud of these awards,” said head coach Andy Jackson. “These players have worked hard and are deserving of this reward. We're also very excited that these guys will all be back next year.”
Cueto becomes the fourth Gator to earn SEC Freshman of the Year honors under Jackson's guidance, joining Janne Holmia (2003), Greg Ouellette (2005) and Jesse Levine (2008). Lacroix is a repeat All-SEC honoree, having been named to the All-SEC second team in 2008. The Gators have now placed multiple players on the All-SEC first team five times in eight years under Jackson.
UF will be in action next on Friday, May 8, at 4 p.m. hosting Marist in Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex in the first round of the NCAA team tournament. Tickets are available at www.gatorzone.com/tickets or through the Gator Ticket Office by calling (352) 375-4683, ext. 6800.
