Seventy-one Gators Selected to SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll

Seventy-one University of Florida student-athletes were named to the 2009 Southeastern Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll on Wednesday by league commissioner Mike Slive.
The 2008-09 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2008 Summer, Fall and 2009 Spring terms.
The Gators tied for the lead among all SEC institutions for 2009 Academic All-SEC honorees in men's golf (8). The Gator softball team also matched their program record with 14 on the Academic All-SEC Honor Roll.
To be recognized to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
For the 2008-09 academic year, a total of 168 UF student-athletes earned a spot on the league's academic honor roll. UF is the only SEC school to place 100 or more student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll each of the last 12 years. UF set its school record with 193 honorees in 2002-03. In the last 10 years, Florida leads the league with a total of 1,658 recipients.
