Incoming Freshman Christal Caldwell Helps All-Star Team Win

University of Florida incoming freshman Christal Caldwell (Charlotte, N.C.) scored 13 points and helped the West defeat the East, 87-77, in the 35th annual N.C. Coaches Association East-West All-Star Game held at the Greensboro Coliseum Monday evening.
Caldwell's point total was the second highest on the victorious West squad that sprinted out to a 45-32 halftime lead and kept the East at bay the remainder of the game.
Named 2009 Ms. North Carolina Basketball, Caldwell led West Charlotte High School to the 2009 Class 4A state championship, the program's first-ever state title. She was the leading vote-getter for the 2008 and 2009 Associated Press North Carolina All-State teams. Caldwell averaged 17.1 points, 8.0 rebounds, three assists and three steals per game her final season, when she was voted 2009 Western Regional and State Finals MVP.
This is the second consecutive year a member of UF's incoming class has participated in the North Carolina East-West All-Star Game. Rising Gator sophomore Trumae Lucas (Greensboro, N.C.) was named the 2008 game's MVP after leading the West to a 78-73 win.
