WBB's Stewart Posts Double-Double in OT Loss to Czech Republic at WUG
Sunday, July 5, 2009 | Women's Basketball
UF's Azania Stewart (Wood Green, England) had a monster performance against the Czech Republic in the opening game of World University Games, but it wasn't enough to lead her native Great Britain to a win on Sunday.
Stewart totaled 18 points and 18 rebounds in the 89-83 overtime loss, which drops GB into the bottom half of the draw. The team aims to regroup on Tuesday against Poland, with tip-off scheduled for 12:30 p.m. local time (six hours ahead of the Eastern Time Zone).
A rising sophomore for the Gators, Stewart played 36 minutes, hitting 6-of-15 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the free throw line, while blocking a pair of shots before fouling out with six personals. Half of her 18 rebounds were on the offensive end.
Understandably down after a tight loss, Stewart blogged for the 10th time a quick message, which can be read on www.GatorZone.com.
Azania promised to share her summer adventures as often as she can and her blog can be read on www.CoachAmandaButler.com. From the main page of the website, click on the “GATOR TALK” icon.
Her photos from the experience also can be viewed on www.CoachAmandaButler.com, by clicking on the “SCRAPBOOK” text along the top and enjoy! Her specific photo gallery is in the album titled, “Azania's 2009 Summer Hoops.”
