University of Florida senior Stephanie Proud (Durham, England) swam to a 16th-place finish in prelims of the women's 200-meter freestyle Thursday at the Tasmajdan Sports Rec Center in Belgrade. Proud, representing Great Britain at the 2009 World University Games, clocked a 2:03.29 to advance to semifinals.
The Thursday evening session on day five of the seven-day competition will kick off at 6:15 p.m. local time, 12:15 p.m. (ET). Proud is slated to take to the water in semis of the 200 free at approximately 12:30 p.m. (ET), and will be looking to surpass her career-best (2:02.17), achieved at the 2008 U.S. Open last August. A top-eight finish would guarantee Proud a spot in finals of the event, which will take place Friday at approximately noon (ET).
