Kevkhishvili, Proctor and Several Former T&F Gators Head to World Championships

Florida track and field athletes Mariam Kevkhishvili (Tbilisi, Georgia) and Shara Proctor (The Valley, Anguilla), and several former Gators are in Berlin, Germany, to participate in the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, which begin on Saturday and continue through Aug. 23.
Kevkhishvili, a three-time NCAA Champion, is the 2009 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Shot Put winner and the Southeastern Conference Champion both indoors and outdoors this season. She will participate in the qualification rounds for the women's shot put beginning on Sunday.
Proctor is the 2009 SEC Outdoor Champion in both the long jump and triple jump, and earlier this summer became the first person in her country's history to win a gold medal in a championship event, when she captured the long jump at the Central American and Caribbean Athletics Championships in early July. She will participate in the qualification rounds of the women's long jump beginning next Friday, Aug. 21.
Former Gators also participating in the event included: Hazel Clark (800m), Kerron Clement (400mH), Erin Gilreath (hammer throw), Kristin Heaston (shot put) and Novlene Williams-Mills (400m).
