Sunday, August 2, 2009 | Track and Field
Florida hurdler William Wynne (Marietta, Ga.) broke a 12-year-old Pan Am Junior Championships record in the preliminaries of the men's 400-meter hurdles on Saturday to highlight the Gators' participation in the event. The 2009 Pan Am Junior Championships are being held at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad.
Wynne, who completed his freshman season at Florida in 2009, finished first in the preliminaries of the men's 400-meter hurdles in a time of 49.89. That broke the previous Pan Am Junior Championship record of 50.03, set by Angelo Taylor on July 19, 1997. The finals of the event are scheduled for Sunday.
Decathlete Gray Horn (Wapakoneta, Ohio) finished in second place overall in the event. The 2009 SEC Outdoor decathlon champion posted a final tally of 6,992. He notched first-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and the pole vault on Saturday, and a third-place finish in the discus.
