Men's Tennis Plays Well on Day One of Gator Invitational

The University of Florida men's tennis team opened the 2009 Gator Invitational in impressive fashion on Friday at the Ring Tennis Complex with four singles wins and three doubles victories.
Junior Johnny Hamui (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) teamed with senior Daniel Cash (Oslo, Norway) in doubles action to earn a win over South Florida's Romain Deridder and Mark Oljaca, 6-4. The pair of junior Eric Corace (Naples, Fla.) and freshman William Federhofer (North Miami, Fla.) won 7-5 over Mississippi State's Max Gregor Smith and Tanner Stump.
The Gators' final doubles tandem of junior Alexandre Lacroix (Paris, France) and Antoine Benneteau (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) took down South Florida's Wael Kilani and Yannick Toshizawa, 7-5.
In flight one singles action, Lacroix breezed past Kilani 6-0, 6-0. Benneteau won in flight five singles 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) over South Florida's Juan Carlos Acuna Gerard. Hamui and Federhofer also earned singles victories on the evening.
Action resumes on Saturday at 10 a.m. with doubles play, followed by a short break and singles matches. Admission is free.
