Two Doubles Pairs into Semifinals at SEC Indoors, Freshman Bangoura Advances to Quarterfinals

Freshman Sekou Bangoura Jr. (Bradenton) advanced to the singles quarterfinals at the SEC Indoor Championships at the Racquet Club of the South in Norcross, Ga., with a victory on Saturday, while the doubles tandems of senior Antoine Benneteau (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) and junior Alexandre Lacroix (Paris, France) along with Bangoura and sophomore Joey Burkhardt (St. Augustine) moved on to the doubles semifinals with two wins each.
Bangoura downed Georgia's Bo Seal, 6-4, 1-6, 6-1, to advance into the quarterfinals in his first collegiate event. Meanwhile, the No. 10-ranked Benneteau/Lacroix duo and the Burkhardt/Bangoura pairing scored two wins each on the afternoon. Playing on opposite sides of the draw, the doubles pairs will both be in action at 3 p.m. on Sunday with the potential to set up an all-UF doubles final.
Burkhardt withdrew from the singles event prior to his Saturday match, while Lacroix, the seventh-ranked player in the nation, fell in his Round of 16 match with No. 68 Boris Conkic of Tennessee.
Play continues on Sunday with Bangoura facing Kentucky's No. 8 Eric Quigley at 9 a.m. With a win, Bangoura would immediately play the semifinal match at 10:30 a.m. Benneteau plays his singles consolation match at 10:30 a.m.
