Florida Welcomes Former Gator Francesca Enea; NPF Tour to Gainesville Saturday
Tuesday, November 2, 2010 | Softball
The University of Florida softball team will host its second fall opponent Saturday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium versus Team NPF from the National Pro Fastpitch organization. Florida, which opened its fall season with 7-0 and 14-0 victories over Florida State College at Jacksonville Oct. 24, will face a NPF team whose roster is composed of 13 former collegiate softball players who currently play for one of the four 2010 NPF teams.
For the Gainesville stop on the NPF's Back to School-College Tour, the Team NPF lineup will showcase familiar softball names like Danielle Lawrie (Washington Huskies), Andrea Duran (UCLA) and Kelly Montalvo (Alabama).
Most notably, the Gators will welcome 2010 senior All-American Francesca Enea (Woodland Hills, Calif.) back home to Gainesville. Enea, the Southeastern Conference's career home run record holder (61), left Florida this past spring as the holder of 13 Gator records, including the Gators' single-season home run record. Enea was drafted ninth overall by the USSSA Pride of the National Pro Fastpitch League in the 2010 Senior Draft Feb. 10, 2010, while current UF head softball coach Tim Walton, was shortly after named the head coach of the Florida Pride, based out of Kissimmee, Fla., May 10. Under Walton's watch, the Florida Pride softball team claimed the 2010 NPF Championship title August 29 following the summer-long NPF season. The championship victory and NPF trophy was the first ever in Florida Pride history.
This weekend's Saturday event poses the unique opportunity for softball fans across the state to watch top-level professional softball talent, as well as preview the 2011 Gator squad, which features returning All-American and All-SEC righty Stephanie Brombacher (Pembroke Pines, Fla.), 2010 All-SEC selections seniors Megan Bush (Anaheim Hills, Calif.), Aja Paculba (Wildomar, Calif.), junior Michelle Moultrie (Jacksonville, Fla.) and sophomores Kelsey Horton (Valrico, Fla.) and Brittany Schutte (Fountain Valley, Calif.). Gator fans can additionally take a glimpse at UF's five newcomers, including 2010 Gatorade National Player of the Year, freshman Kasey Fagan (Dunnellon, Fla.).
