Lacroix Progresses to Semifinals at USTA/ITA National Indoor Tennis Championships
Saturday, November 6, 2010 | Men's Tennis
University of Florida senior Alexandre Lacroix (Paris, France) was victorious in his Round of 16 and quarterfinal singles matches on Day Two of the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships. Lacroix defeated third-ranked and reigning NCAA Singles champion, Bradley Klahn of Stanford 6-2, 6-2 to earn a berth in the quarterfinals. This is the second consecutive national tournament he has reached the quarterfinals along with the ITA/D'Novo All-American Championships last month.
The straight-sets win marked his second victory over a top-10 player this fall as he had beaten eighth-ranked Eric Quigley of Kentucky en route to winning the Napa Valley Classic championship back on Oct. 26.
The ninth-ranked Frenchman next topped Gonzalo Escobar of Texas Tech, who is ranked 24th nationally, 6-3, 6-3 to book his place in the semifinals. This is the first time the Gator senior has reached a semifinal in a national tournament. Lacroix will face SEC-rival and 21st-ranked Rhyne Williams of Tennessee at 12 p.m. Saturday.
