Bangoura, who enrolled at UF in January, made his presence felt for the Gators at last weekend's ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va., posting a 2-1 singles record at the No. 5 position.
Both times that Bangoura posted a singles victory last weekend, the Gators went on to win the match. Bangoura downed No. 5 Baylor's Roberto Maytin and No. 7 Georgia's Bo Seal, and the straight-sets victory over Seal clinched a 4-0 win over Georgia for the Gators.
In addition, Bangoura's doubles victory against Baylor alongside Joey Burkhardt (St. Augustine, Fla.) helped UF claim the crucial doubles point in a closely-contested match.
The freshman stands at 8-3 in singles play this spring and 6-4 on the doubles court. He is 5-2 at singles in dual match play, where he has appeared at the second, third and fifth positions for Florida.
Bangoura has helped the men's tennis team to a 6-2 start, with four of 12th-ranked Florida's eight matches to date coming against teams ranked in the nation's top seven.
The Gator men's tennis team is in action again on Sunday, Feb. 21, at 1 p.m., when they host in-state rival USF at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex. Admission to the match is free.
