Florida freshman Bob Van Overbeek (Boca Raton, Fla.) has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for men's tennis, the league office announced on Wednesday. It marks the second consecutive week a Gator has received that distinction, with Sekou Bangoura Jr. (Bradenton, Fla.) earning the recognition last week.

Van Overbeek played a key role in the Gators' 6-1 victory over USF on Sunday, getting off the court quickly in both singles and doubles.
Van Overbeek and fellow freshman Billy Federhofer (North Miami, Fla.) posted the quickest victory of the day, cruising to an 8-2 victory in just 36 minutes on Court 3 to set up the clinching point by Alexandre Lacroix (Paris, France) and Antoine Benneteau (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) at the No. 1 position.
Van Overbeek then rolled to a straight-sets 6-2, 6-1 victory over Mark Oljaca at No. 4 singles that gave Florida a 3-0 lead. As in doubles, Van Overbeek's singles victory set up the clincher, with Lacroix securing the Gator win on Court 1 soon after.
Van Overbeek, who enrolled at UF in January, has an overall singles record of 5-4, including 4-3 in dual match play. His doubles record in the Orange and Blue is identical, also 5-4 overall and 4-3 in dual matches.
The No. 6 Gators host rival No. 19 Florida State this evening at 5 p.m. at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex. Admission to the match is free.
