Christian Taylor Named to The Bowerman Watchlist
Thursday, March 18, 2010 | Track and Field
Sophomore Florida jumper Christian Taylor (Fayetteville, Ga.), the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Male Field Athlete of the Year and a two-time NCAA Indoor Champion in the men's triple jump, has been added to the latest watchlist for The Bowerman, track and field's highest honor, the USTFCCCA announced Wednesday from its offices in New Orleans.
Taylor broke his own school record in winning the NCAA title the men's triple jump last Saturday, becoming the first athlete in school history to break the 17-meter plateau at 17.18m/56-4.50. Taylor captured the event for the second consecutive year, becoming the first person to win back-to-back NCAA men's indoor triple jump title since Walter Davis of LSU accomplished the feat in 2001 and 2002.
Taylor, who entered the NCAA Championship meet ranked 13th in the nation in the men's long jump, recorded his finest display of the season in that event, placing second with a season-best leap of 7.93m/26-0.25 to earn All-America honors.
Taylor tied for the team lead in points at the SEC Indoor Championships with 18.5 points, after winning the men's triple jump, finishing third in the long jump and running as part of the winning men's 4x400-meter relay team.
