Track and Field Embarks on UCF Invitational
Friday, March 26, 2010 | Track and Field
For the second consecutive week, the University of Florida track and field team travels to Orlando, Fla., to compete in the two-day UCF Invitational, hosted by the University of Central Florida at its UCF Track and Field Complex.
Activities begin at 3 p.m. ET Friday with select field events before continuing at 9:30 a.m. ET Saturday. Admission is free and open to the public and results will be available at www.halfmiletiming.com.
The Gators will be returning to Orlando following a successful weekend at the UCF Black and Gold Challenge last Saturday. In its first meet of the 2010 outdoor season, Florida captured seven events in a low-key competition for the purposes of giving important experience to the team's younger competitors.
The Gators will send an expanded roster to the UCF Invitational that includes the 2010 debut of the men's 4x100-meter relay team, which captured the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championship.
The UCF Invitational serves as the final tune-up for the Florida track and field team before playing host to the 66th Pepsi Florida Relays at Percy Beard Track April 2-3, 2010.
The Florida track and field teams are coming off one of their most impressive national meets in program history. The No. 1 men's team captured the first NCAA Indoor Championship in program history, while the women's team placed fourth nationally.
Florida head coach Mike Holloway last Friday was named the USTFCCCA Indoor Men's National Head Coach of the Year.
