Women's Golf Wraps Up Play at Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

The UF women's golf team carded their lowest-team score of the weekend on day three of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on Sunday. The Gators improved their second-round score by 14 strokes with a 20-over 308. Unfortunately, it was too little too late as the squad remained in 18th place on the leaderboard with a tournament total score of 944 (314-322-308, +80).
“This tournament wasn't a very good performance for us,” said head coach Jan Dowling. “However, this golf course was extremely challenging. The greens were very fast and made even faster with the wind that we dealt with. The positive thing is that this weekend served as great practice for post-season and that's what it's all about. We will work on the things we need to address and take it from there.”
Freshman Mia Piccio (Bacolod City, Philippines) not only carded the lowest score of the day for Florida, her two-over 74 on Sunday was the low UF score for the entire weekend. Piccio was able to improve her score with each round and finished the tournament with a 231 (79-78-74, +15) to finish in a tie for 28th.
After leading the squad following round two, sophomore Marika Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) matcher her first round score with a five-over 77 on Sunday. Lendl finished in a tie for 34th with a 54-hole score of 233 (77-79-77, +17). Freshman Isabelle Lendl (Bradenton, Fla.) had her lowest-scoring round on day three, carding a four-over 76. Lendl, who also improved her score with each round, shot a total score of 239 (82-81-76, +23) and tied for 69th.
Sophomore Evan Jensen (Bellaire, Fla.) also improved upon her second round score, having three strokes off her day two score with a nine-over 81 on day three. Jensen finished in a tie for 81st with a 25-over 241 (76-84-81). Freshman Megan Pak (Bradenton, Fla.) took sole custody of 116th place with a 258 (84-88-86, +52).
Duke led the 23-team tournament field the entire weekend and was able to close the tournament with a win, carding a team score of 889 (300-300-289, +25). Lindy Duncan of Duke took the individual crown with a 54-hole score of 213 (70-72-71, -3).
The Gators return home to host the SunTrust Gator Invitational on April 10-11 at the Mark Bostick Golf Course. Admission to the event is free and open to the public. Live scoring and official results will also be available on www.GatorZone.com or www.golfstat.com.
