2010 Olympic Gold Medalist Steve Mesler Returns to Florida Campus Thursday
Wednesday, March 31, 2010 | Track and Field
Former Florida decathlete Steve Mesler (Buffalo, N.Y.) and a member of the United States' 2010 Olympic Gold Medal bobsled team will return to the University of Florida campus this week.
Mesler is speaking at a seminar at UF's College of Health and Human Performance Thursday, April 1 at 10 a.m. on the Florida Gym courts. After discussing his experiences in the Olympic Games, Mesler will hold a question-and-answer session. He also will be available for photographs with his fans. The event is free and open to the public.
Mesler will also throw out the first pitch at Friday's baseball game versus Vanderbilt. The game begins at 6:30 p.m. at McKethan Stadium.
The 2000 Florida grad was part of the USA I team that became the first U.S. four-man bobsled crew to capture Olympic gold in 62 years. It was 1948 at St. Moritz when the United States last won the event. Combined time for the four runs was 3 minutes, 24.46 seconds, a whopping (by bobsled standards) 38 hundredths of a second ahead of the silver medal team.
