Track and Field Gators Earn Three SEC End-of-Season Awards

On the heels of its first Southeastern Conference Indoor Championship since the 2004 campaign, the Florida women's track and field team has garnered three end-of-season honors from the SEC, the league offices in Birmingham, Ala., announced Thursday.
Florida head coach Mike Holloway was named the SEC Women's Head Coach of the Year, senior jumper Shara Proctor (The Valley, Anguilla) was named the SEC Women's Field Athlete of the Year and freshman sprinter Lanie Whittaker (Miami, Fla.) was a co-recipient of the SEC Women's Freshman Runner of the Year.
Holloway, who also claimed 2009 SEC Women's Outdoor Coach of the Year honors, is in his third year overseeing the Gator women as part of the combined track and field program. Under his direction, Florida claimed five SEC individual titles en route to its first SEC Indoor Championship since 2004.
Proctor was the co-recipient, with teammate Charlotte Browning, of the 2010 SEC Cliff Harper Trophy, recognizing the high-points scorer at the indoor league championships after claiming SEC individual titles in both the long jump and triple jump this season. She ranks second in the nation in both the long jump (6.67m/21-10.75) and the triple jump (13.88m/45-6.50). She leads the SEC and ranks second in the nation in both events.
Proctor became the first athlete in UF school history to claim both the long jump and triple jump indoor championships in the same season. She has recorded NCAA automatic-qualifying marks in every meet in which she has competed this season. Proctor is a candidate for The Bowerman, track and field's highest honor.
Whittaker placed fourth in the women's 400-meter run at the 2010 SEC Indoor Championships in a personal-record and NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 53.78 to score five points for the team. She also ran the third leg of Florida's fifth-place 4x400-meter relay team that ran the school's fastest time in the event since the 2005 season with an NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 3:38.08.
