A full complement of University of Florida track and field athletes are slated to participate in one of the season's most anticipated events – the 66th Pepsi Florida Relays this Friday and Saturday at James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track.
Gates open at 9 a.m. each day for the event's 10 a.m. start. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children and seniors. Complete coverage of the Florida Relays can be found at http://www.gatorzone.com/trackfield/floridarelays. Live results also will be available through www.halfmiletiming.com.
“I'm really excited about this upcoming weekend,” Florida head coach Mike Holloway said. “We've got one of the best fields we've had come in here in a long time. A lot of great post-collegians will be coming in here, plus all the Gators will be competing this weekend. This is a good chance for us to compete in front of our home crowd and we're really looking forward to the competition.”
Collegiate teams highlighting the meet include Alabama, Bethune-Cookman, Buffalo, Clemson, host Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and UCF.
“This is the 66th edition of the Florida Relays and it has always been kind of the premier relay meet of the south,” Holloway said. “With us being the hosts, obviously we want to put on a good show for our home fans and we've got the kind of team where we can be competitive in a lot of areas. We really feel it's a privilege to be able to put on this meet.”
The Gators enter the meet ranked No. 1 nationally on the men's side and No. 4 on the women's side according to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll released Wednesday afternoon by the New Orleans-based organization.
Florida is coming off an impressive weekend at the UCF Invitational where the Gators won 13 events, including redshirt freshman Jeremy Postin (Andover, Kan.) setting a new school record in the men's hammer throw at 59.90m/196-6. Freshman sprinter Tony McQuay (Riviera Beach, Fla.) was exceptionally impressive, as a part of three event victories. He won the 100m and 200m and ran a stellar leg of the team's dynamic 4x400-meter relay team.
Senior thrower Mariam Kevkhishvili (Tbilisi, Georgia) will compete in the last Florida Relays of her collegiate career this weekend, looking to break Florida's school record in the outdoor women's shot put. She is a four-time NCAA Champion, including being the defending NCAA Outdoor Women's Shot Put Champion, and a seven-time All-American.
The Florida men's 4x100-meter relay team is the defending SEC and NCAA Champion and will look to defend that title beginning Saturday at the Pepsi Florida Relays.

- The Gators won four NCAA individual championships indoors this year – men's 60m (Jeff Demps), men's triple jump (Christian Taylor), women's shot put (Mariam Kevkhishvili) and women's mile (Charlotte Browning).
- The UF track and field roster is represented by athletes from nine different countries, including the United States. The other countries represented on the roster include Anguilla, Australia, Bosnia, Brazil, England, Georgia, The Netherlands and Trinidad.

- The Gators' women's distance corps scored 47 of the team's 110 total points en route to the SEC Indoor Championship in February in Fayetteville, Ark. Florida impressively scored 24 points alone in the women's 3,000-meter run at that meet.
