Softball's Schutte Named SEC Freshman of the Week

University of Florida freshman Brittany Schutte (Fountain Valley, Calif.) was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon for her performance in Florida's three wins over Arkansas this past weekend.
The catcher led the No. 4/5 Gators with a .556 batting average, a 1.222 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage. She also tied for a team-high five hits and tallied two home runs, including a three-run shot in the first game against the Razorbacks in the fourth inning with UF trailing 3-0. She also walked once and stole her third base of the season.
The rookie has collected 11 homers on the season, currently second on Florida's freshman record list. Current junior Megan Bush (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) set the record at 13 in 2008. Schutte is also currently tied for second on the team with 31 RBIs, which is ranked sixth in the freshman books. Her 11 home runs are second on the team and tied for 11th on UF's single-season record list.
The Gators return to action on Wednesday, April 14 with a doubleheader against No. 16/19 Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla. The rivals will play a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. (ET) with the first game being televised on Sun Sports and both games broadcasting on WYGC-FM 105 The Game (104.9).
