M. Golf Travels To Sea Island, Ga. For SEC Championship

The University of Florida men's golf team is headed to Sea Island, Ga. to compete in the 2010 SEC Championship on April 16-18. The Gators will tee off at the par-72, 7,217-yard Sea Island Golf Club.
UF is coming off one of its best performances of the season after claiming a second place finish at the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate. The squad was led by a pair of seniors, Tyson Alexander (Gainesville, Fla.) and Tim McKenney (Scottsdale, Ariz.), who finished first and second, respectively. The Gators look to continue that momentum into the post-season as they attempt to win the program's 13th SEC Championship crown. The Gators will rely on their senior leadership as only Alexander and McKenney have played in the SEC Championship.
At No. 8 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Rating, the Florida Gators are the highest-ranked team entering the SEC Championship. Florida is one of four teams in the conference to be ranked in the top-25 of the latest poll. The Gators are joined by No. 9 South Carolina, No. 14 Georgia and No. 21 Alabama. The Gators have faced an SEC team on 28 occasions in 2009-10 and currently hold a 19-9 record. They have finished higher in every tournament when facing Kentucky, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Georgia. The SEC boasts three of the four highest-ranked individual golfers according to Golfweek. The top-ranked golfer in the country, Georgia's Russell Henley, is joined by No. 2 Bud Cauley of Alabama and No. 4 Harris English of Georgia.
Florida has claimed 14 team championships, third-most among conference teams. Their last conference title came in 2003, when they six shots over Auburn. From 1991-94, UF won four straight conference titles. In addition, Florida has finished as the runner-up 15 times. Individually, 21 Gators have claimed the individual medal at the SEC Championship, the most of any school in the conference. From 1973-78, Florida golfer's took home eight straight individual medals.
